Reading and Questions for AP Lit week of Oct 9th, 2013

For this week:
–you should be ready to discuss the rest of  Old School by Tobias Wolff.

–I was able to find William Faulkner’s short story Burning House at the library, so if you did too, lets read that for our short story this week. Otherwise, lets read The Destructors by Graham Greene, which is in Perrine’s

–Perrine’s Literature: please read the section on plot and structure, which is on pages 103-110 (or close to that in other editions).

–Writing topic: please write an essay responding to this prompt using Old School (or another book) as your source:

The meaning of some literary works is often enhanced by sustained allusion to myths, the Bible, or other works of literature. Select a literary work that makes use of such a sustained reference. Then write a well-organized essay in which you explain the allusion that predominates in the work and analyze how it enhances the work’s meaning.
